We are performing planned maintenance on our visual drag-and-drop builder, PHLO. This maintenance window will help us add MMS capabilities on PHLO. Along with adding MMS, we will bring a common nomenclature for SMS and MMS to Messaging on PHLO.

When is the maintenance?

17th January 2021 5:30 AM UTC - 17th January 2021 8:30 AM UTC

What services will get affected?

The maintenance will affect "Start Node" on PHLO. Execution of all existing PHLO apps will be impacted. The ability to create new PHLOs will also be impacted.

We strongly recommend you not create or update any PHLO apps during the maintenance window.

What error to expect when you trigger a PHLO during the maintenance window?

The error can vary based on the PHLO configuration but initially, the error will be “An unexpected error has occurred”.

What is the impact?

All incoming and outgoing messages, as well as voice calls, made using PHLO apps will fail. We will not have the ability to trigger these failed messages and calls after the maintenance is complete.

All existing PHLOs will be upgraded automatically, including changes in the nomenclature from "SMS" to "Messaging".

Scheduled - What is changing?

To continue keeping communication and information exchange between you and Plivo secure, we are planning to deprecate older security protocols TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 due to several vulnerabilities associated with them. After the final deprecation timeline on January 12th, 2021, requests using TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 will not be served. All requests will have to be made using TLS 1.2.

When is the change?

The deprecation deadline is January 12th, 2021. Make sure you have upgraded and tested your applications to negotiate TLS 1.2 with the following endpoints:

https://phlorunner.plivo.com
https://media.plivo.com
Why the change?
TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 use the SHA-1 algorithm and weaker cipher suites for authenticating identities.

However, it has become dangerously weak due to several vulnerabilities identified in its suite. These vulnerabilities could potentially allow attackers to sniff your connection.

The greater enhancement in encryption of TLS 1.2 allows it to use more secure hash algorithms such as SHA-256 as well as advanced cipher suites, providing improved security when using Plivo services.

How do we change?

The upgrade process is usually a non-disruptive process. However, you will have to make sure your applications are updated and support TLS 1.2. Additionally, if you are using Plivo SDKs, ensure they are updated to the latest version. The below endpoints would be enforced with TLS1.2 :

PHLO: https://phlorunner.plivo.com.
Recordings: https://media.plivo.com.

What is the impact?

On January 12th, 2021, we will reject TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 requests sent to below endpoints:
